Destry Taylor (pronouns they/them) is a queer, genderqueer Southerner who has been working as a family nurse practitioner in North Carolina since 2013. While they are a committed primary care provider their clinical focuses include LGBTQIA+ health, gender affirming care, sexual health (including PrEP), and working with patients with chronic mental health conditions.
Prior to Destry’s work as a nurse practitioner, they worked in the biomedical research field with focuses including cancer therapies, food microbiology, and pulmonology. While living in Seattle, they began volunteering as an HIV Pre/Post Test Counselor at a drop-in clinic for homeless youth and as a Hepatitis C screening coordinator at a community-run needle exchange. These experiences ignited Destry’s interest in strengthening community focused healthcare and as a result, they enrolled in the University of Washington’s nursing program.
Mx. Destry Taylor is a 2011 Graduate of the University of Washington Nursing Program, and holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Duke University. Following their training, they have practiced in Graham, Durham, and Chapel Hill with the majority of their time being spent at federally qualified health centers. Destry is very excited to join the Radical Healing team and continue their work of expanding and improving health care for the LGBTQIA+ community in North Carolina.
