Hello! My name is Givie (“Give-ee”) and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate. My role as your counselor isn’t to give you advice, my opinion, or tell you what I think you should do. My role is to help you process your emotions and give you the tools you need to help you reach your therapeutic goals and improve your mental health. You get to decide what “improvement” means to you, and I will do my best to help you reach that ideal version of yourself. I recognize that many folks have experienced negative treatment from counselors in the past, and acknowledge the courage it takes to be vulnerable with a new counselor. I believe my clients are experts of their own experiences and value your autonomy as a client. This means that I encourage conversations around our work together and your thoughts about the care I am providing.
I use a few therapeutic modalities in my work, including CBT, DBT, Feminist Theory, and somatic interventions. I also incorporate “homework” for you to complete outside of session which likely will include practicing coping skills introduced in session.
It is an honor to hear someone’s most vulnerable parts and I’m excited to see where we will journey together.
