More About Jessica Matijow

Hello! I’m currently a master’s-level counseling student pursuing a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at North Carolina Central University. My background in child development, along with years of experience supporting individuals and families across a variety of settings, has strengthened my ability to build trusting relationships and approach each person with empathy, flexibility, and genuine care.

My clinical approach is integrative, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I enjoy helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while also supporting them in developing practical skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, and personal values. I believe in the importance of meeting clients where they are, while balancing structure with flexibility. I believe counseling is a partnership, grounded in a supportive, warm, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe exploring their own lived experiences. My experiences living in different environments and engaging with diverse communities have shaped my appreciation for cultural identity and the many factors that influence each person’s individual story. I approach each client with curiosity, respect, and cultural humility.

Beyond therapy, I enjoy spending time outside, gardening, reading, or finding a new restaurant or coffee shop in the area!
