I am currently a student at North Carolina Central University, pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am also co-founder and principal of CounterPart Consulting with Sterling Freeman, and an associate with OpenSource Leadership Strategies, with Gita GulatiPartee. The three of us have been in partnership for over 25 years, and through our national consulting practices support systems and leaders to bring a race-explicit, intersectional power analysis to the work of advancing social justice and change. My current work is focused on systems level change, designing and building equitable practices in order for all to have opportunity to thrive. As such, I work with individuals to assess, discern, disrupt, and design for change.
I am drawn to the field of clinical mental health counseling because it recognizes and validates the impact that unjust systems of power have on individuals’ health, choices, and overall well-being. I bring this perspective into a person-centered, trauma-informed approach when working with individuals and groups. The therapeutic theories that guide me are grounded always in the pursuit of equity and justice, and I am committed to deepening my knowledge and practice to support people in discovering their individual paths to wellness, liberation and peace. I believe that each of us inherently has the ability to find the way to health and wellness, and deserves unwavering support in that pursuit.
